Biography
Daniel Huttenlocher is the dean of the MIT Schwarzman College of Computing and the Henry Ellis Warren (1894) Professor of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence and Decision-Making in MIT's Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. His research often bridges between academic subfields and academia and industry. Recently, he has focused on how to develop a better understanding of AI. Over the years he has developed a number of algorithmically-oriented computer vision techniques. The super-pixel segmentation method and Hausdorff distance methods that he helped create remain widely used, even in the modern deep learning era. Huttenlocher earned a BS from the University of Michigan, and an MS and PhD from MIT. He currently serves as the board chair of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, and a board member of Corning Inc. and Amazon.com.
